November 12, 2025 — The International Public Safety Data Institute (IPSDI) proudly announces the launch of its groundbreaking Exposure Tracker™ app (formerly NFORS® Career Diary®), available in app stores this week, redesigned to better assist firefighters with a flexible, user-focused approach to recording occupational exposures.
The new Exposure Tracker shifts from incident-based reporting to focus on exposure documentation, enabling users to log exposures as they happen - regardless of whether a formal incident has occurred. This change empowers personnel to take charge of their individual exposure records.
Initial funding for IPSDI Exposure Tracker (and its predecessor, NFORS® Career Diary®) was provided by a grant from the Ramsey Social Justice Foundation. Exposure Tracker is sustained, in whole or in part, through IPSDI and the DHS/FEMA's Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program, Fire Prevention and Safety
Key enhancements also include:
Expanded Exposure Categories: Users can now record multiple exposure types in a single entry, including Smoke/Products of Combustion, Biological/Infectious Disease/EMS, Hazardous Materials, Bullying/Incivility/Violence (physical/verbal), and Significant/Potential Traumatic Events.
Streamlined Experience: Designed for speed and simplicity, users can quickly capture essential details, encouraging proactive use without needing incident numbers or external validation.
Modern User Interface: A refreshed, intuitive design compatible across iOS, Android, and web platforms ensures a seamless experience using the latest UI frameworks.
Flexible Data Entry: With no required fields, users can input as much or as little information as they prefer, removing barriers to documentation.
Improved and expanded connection with IPSDI Analytics: Departments that choose to integrate with IPSDI Analytics, IPSDI’s comprehensive data analytics platform, will offer their members a stronger connection to the department’s incident data. Additional data fields, such as on-scene temperature and humidity, are automatically included.
Future-Ready Roadmap: IPSDI aims to expand functionality to meet the changing needs of the fire service, including customized experiences for behavioral health, wildland firefighting, Fire Marshals, Instructors, and fire service K9s.
“Exposure tracking isn’t paperwork. It’s personal. Every entry represents a firefighter’s story and the foundation of future health advocacy,” said John Oates, IPSDI President and CEO. "Our user-first design philosophy makes the firefighter experience as important as the data. Exposure Tracker is built to support the people doing the work, now and in the future. We’re committed to making it as easy as possible for all firefighters to document their exposures.”
The Exposure Tracker app demonstrates IPSDI’s ongoing commitment to improving the health, safety, and well-being of fire service professionals through innovative technology and data-driven approaches and solutions.
