McLean, VA (June 2, 2026) - The International Public Safety Data Institute (IPSDI) has been named one of 35 organizations recognized by NIOSH as a National Firefighter Registry (NFR) Champion.
The NIOSH NFR for Cancer is the largest effort ever undertaken to understand and reduce cancer risk among U.S. firefighters. NIOSH established the NFR Champion designation to recognize fire service organizations, media outlets, and nonprofits that actively encourage firefighters in their networks to enroll in the Registry.
IPSDI's receipt of the NFR Champion designation reflects the organization's ongoing commitment to advancing firefighter health and safety through data science. As developer of the IPSDI Exposure Tracker™ — a tool that enables firefighters to log career-spanning exposure records and, at their discretion, contribute that data to research efforts like the NFR — IPSDI has worked to connect firefighters with the resources and information they need to participate in landmark occupational health research.
All U.S. firefighters are encouraged to join the NFR for Cancer at https://nfr.cdc.gov — whether or not they have a cancer diagnosis, active or retired, regardless of length of service. Participation contributes to the largest firefighter cancer dataset in history and helps shape the future of firefighter cancer research.
Firefighters can create a free IPSDI Exposure Tracker™ account at i-psdi.org/exposure to begin logging occupational exposure records.
